I’m Dr. Ross McKenzie
Optometrist. Clinic owner. Eyewear nerd. Prairie-raised with a passion for clarity—in life and in vision.
I’ve been helping people see better and feel better in their eyewear for over 20 years.
Today, I practice at two clinics I helped build from the ground up: Stonewire Optometry in Kingsway Mall and Helio Optometry in West Edmonton. At both locations, we combine advanced diagnostic technology with a patient-first mindset to make your eye care experience modern, efficient, and actually enjoyable.
My journey started in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, with summers spent working on my family’s grain farm near Moose Jaw. That’s where I learned the value of hard work, community, and doing things right the first time. After earning my Bachelor of Science in Human Anatomy from the University of Saskatchewan, I moved to Forest Grove, Oregon to complete my Doctor of Optometry at Pacific University. I graduated with honours and was recognized by the Beta Sigma Kappa Honour Society for academic excellence.
Since then, I’ve worn a lot of hats—clinic director, practice owner, surgical centre collaborator, eyewear buyer, laser vision consultant, and public speaker. I co-founded eye-bar optometrists in Sherwood Park back in 2007, a clinic built around the idea that eye care should be as stylish as it is clinical. I also spent years working at Eye-Q-Premium Laser (now Alberta Corneal Consultants), guiding patients through their laser vision correction and cataract surgery journeys alongside some of Alberta’s top ophthalmologists.
Over the years, I’ve been invited to speak on topics like dry eye treatments, diabetic eye care, cataracts, retinal detachments and contact lens innovation. I’ve consulted with companies like Alcon and Bausch + Lomb, helping shape how modern optometry is practiced across Canada. I’ve also been invited to lecture locally at the interprofessional conferences at the UoA.
But what really lights me up? Helping someone see clearly for the first time in years. Designing progressive lenses that just work. Watching a child put on their first pair of glasses and light up with wonder. That’s the good stuff.
If you’re here, you’re probably looking for an expert who cares about the details and treats you like a person, not a pair of eyeballs. That’s exactly how I’ve built my practices—and my career.
I’d Like to Be Your Eye Doctor. Whether you’re looking for better vision, better eyewear, or just curious about what modern optometry can look like—I’d love to be part of your journey.
